To pitch ideas for a land-based casino management app for a new customer.

situation

As a UX specialist I was asked to conceptualize a new floor management system to pitch to new land-based operators.

Task

The aim of the project was to visualize effective ways to configure and monitor casino floor. It was to be used by different user profiles at the operator's side to enable them to ensure smooth running of the casinos on a day to day basis.

Action

After initial brainstorming of ideas with my vertical head, i worked on the visualization of the concept.

What is land-based?

When we say land-based, we refer to the actual casino floor with machines that users sit on to play casino games. Land-based configuration involves floor plans, installation of machines, configuration of content on the machines and monitoring.

Concept

The below user profiles and their scenarios of use was taken into consideration while coming up with ideas for the app-

  • For an executive user profile the solution offered was a bird's eye view of the casinos's financial health. We visualized a heatmap to classify casinos from hot to cold as determined by revenue generated and number of active players.  This visual would provide user the ability to quickly and easily make comparisons across casinos, assess the situation and take informed decisions. In addition, the app provided the user with a zoom in feature that gave him the ability to drill down into provinces, cities, and finally casino floors to monitor the day to day activities if it was required to do so.

  • For a casino floor manager interested in ensuring the day to day smooth functioning of the casinos, could view hot and cold areas on the floor.  He could use this information to reconfigure games and push promotions on machines located in specific areas of the floor to boost their performance. He could backtrack and play the heatmap up to last 24 hours in order to identify certain times of the day when there was a peak or dip in the revenue. If the user wanted to focus on a certain player or group of players, the app offered the ability to track player movements across the floor. So a user could search for a player and a dotted line would illustrate the player journey on the floor for the last few hours. This feature would specially be useful in monitoring high value players in order to improve their experience in the casino. In addition to monitoring there was a whole section to set up a casino as well. The app provided drag and drop features to easily create a floor plan, add machines to the plan and configure game and promotions on the machines.

  • For a technician, the app provided notifications to alert if a machine had a technical fault or if the payout was high. The notification could be received on phone for the user to attend to them with minimum delay.
