To simplify the creation of free games as a rewards tool.

situation

The app allows the operator to create free games offers as a rewards mechanism to entice players to play at the casino. The old free games application was not clearly understood by the end users who found it complicated to use. The operator had to first create a betting model per currency and per game as foundation and then create free games based off those models. It was a tedious process for something very simple. The new application was a simplified version of the old app. It is in use and much appreciated by the end users.

What is Free Games?

Free games is a promotional tool used to incentive the player to continue playing at a casino or to promote specific games. Players can play for free for a certain number of spins on a specific game with no risk to their existing gaming account balance. The operator can configure the free games to pre-determined bet-sizes so they can curb the cost of the offer and still provide large number of free games.

OLD APPLICATION

The old free games application was not clearly understood by the end users.

  • It was complicated to use and required a learning curve. Most users did not create the free games themselves but placed the call with us to do the job for them. As a result when we released a new game we provided operators with additional free games set up of offers. However the end-users were sometime not happy with the factory settings and wanted to customize it and placed the call with us. So it was a lot of back and forth in the process.

  • The app required the user to understand the concept of betting models which was maths intensive and required the user to depend on specialized users in their space to provide them with the values to input into the app.

  • Also the free games offer had to be created per currency and ended up with overload of free games offer created in the system. It was then difficult to keep track of all of their performance.

Redesign

A new concept was introduced whereby the app does the heavy lifting of creating the betting model in the background. This reduced the learning curve to the application and dependency on specialized departments.

The user could specify high level info like name of the offer, number of free spins, cost per spin and add the currencies and games on which the offer applies. The app created the betting model per game and currency in the background and responded with the nearest cost per spin application in each game. The user was good to go. This reduced the number of free games being created in the system and increased the ability to monitor them easily.

The design was created mobile first to achieve the simplification desired. 

Result

It was a big success and led to easy adoption of free spins by the operators.
